On May 21, Nitrogen-oxygen unit and water-cooling complex was commissioned at Ethylene-polyethylene Plant of Azerikimya PU.
The event was attended by SOCAR President Rovnag Abdullayev, head of the Executive Power of Sumgayit Eldar Azizov, and Azerikimya head Mukhtar Babayev, and other senior representatives of the state oil company.
During the meeting, SOCAR President was informed that construction-installation works have been conducted by Repair and Construction Division of Azerikimya PU. Commissioning of new facilities will contribute to the effective, stable and reliable operation of â€śEP-300â€ť and â€śPolimir-120â€ť complexes of Ethylene-polyethylene plant.
On May 20, an agreement on construction of the Star refinery was signed at Chiraghan Hotel in Turkey.

the groundbreaking ceremony of the STAR Refinery, held on 25 October 2011 with the participation of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip ErdoÄźan, came to a very important stage. He expressed confidence in successful completion of construction works. SOCAR Turkey CEO Kenan Yavuz said that operations of the Refinery, the most important step in refinery-petrochemistry-energy-logistics integration, were anticipated to start within 51 months after the said signatures affixed. With 10 million tons/year capacity, STAR refinery will handle oil types such as Ural, Azeri Light and Kirkuk. The project will be conducted in full compliance with the highest European standards.

On May 15, SOCAR President Rovnag Abdullayev received the U.S. Ambassador to Azerbaijan Richard Morningstar.
During the meeting, SOCAR President Rovnag Abdullayev and Ambassador Richard Morningstar signed an agreement on ''The Critical Language Scholarship Program'' (CLS).
According to the agreement, SOCAR will finance two American students' participation in the program as part of cooperation with the U.S. State Department. The expenses of these students education, relocation and other administrative costs within the program will be covered by SOCAR. In turn, the U.S. State Department, together with partner organizations and contractor organizations, undertakes to supervise the execution of ''CLS'' program, including the selection of participants, administrative actions, language and cultural training, and other issues related to the implementation of the program.
